What their websites are saying

3 Oct

During the process of building our own new website, we looked at dozens of agency sites.

The multinational network sites were, predictably BIG and BOLD and CONFIDENT, but it’s hard to imagine that every office in the network lives up to the promise of the Chicago or London office where the site was created.

By and large, I loved the little agency sites. They’re smart and folksy at once, with none of that slick anonymity of the JWTs and Leo Burnetts – which are clever of course, but leave you feeling impressed rather than connected.

Here are 3 terrific sites for agencies under 20 people.39f67e2

www.kellett.nt.ca based in Yellowknife

www.stbernadine.com in Vancouverbernadine

www.kontentcreative.com also in Vancouver

I get a great feel about these agencies from their homepages – and a sense of wha27977c5t sets them apart, whether its their social media connectivity, their investment in building a community, or their bloody-minded pursuit of autonomy. They are obviously very different: St. Bernadine’s site being pretty much one-of-a-kind. But they set about the design of their sites with a clear purpose and I think it shows.

We strove to get such a quick hit with our own site, personality being more important when you’re a small agency than cleverness.

If you like these sites, let them know. We don’t do enough of that in our business. And if you come across some small agency sites that grab you from the homepage, post a comment here with the address please.

    I’m partisan, of course, but I like http://www.bdm.net ..!

Also, love the St. Bernadine site.

BDM is a very good site Jack, but I dunno if having United Airlines in the US as an account qualifies you guys as a small agency!
