    Ew.

Folks are weighing in by creating their own alternate GAP logos: http://bit.ly/aUkk5f Yeesh. What are some of these thinking? This is the problem with crowdsourcing. I’d stick with their new one…

These are fantastic Brad. #1076 is a rear-view of an elephant. That’s my fave.

#1047 takes the cake. It has a bit of BP in it. Just who you want to be related to…

I want a gig where somebody pays me a whopping amount of money to write three letters in Helvetica. So what if I’m not an Art Director, I can pull it off. Trust me.

Manu, the gig is called Crowd Sourcing. And you can be one of thousands of “designers” eager to show the world how the rear-view of an elephant will sell jeans!

I’ve been a fan of GAP for as long as I’ve been wearing clothes, but if the logo ain’t broke, don’t fix it. If you do insist on “fixing” it and it goes horribly wrong, then at least take the opportunity to fix it properly – yourself.

Is this really what GAP has become? It appears that the brand is caught in a bit of an identity crisis. Particularly since they seem to have another backlash on their hands: the accusation that they’re American Apparel copy-cats.

Many companies go through crisis. It’s how you recover from them that determines the loyalty of your customers. (Unless of course it transpired that you were doing something unethical, illegal or morally repugnant – in which case, you’re cooked for now.) I don’t take issue with the stupid new logo decision. It’s the false appearance of grace under pressure that irks me. We generally don’t like people who refuse to admit they’re wrong. So we like Gap a little less now. Good comment Eden, merci!
