Victoria’s Up and Comers, Part 2

29 Mar

This is the second in a series of 6 posts that hopes to bring some promising local grads and current students to the attention of the larger business community.

MICHELA BYL: A fashion fast-forward kinda gal.

EDUCATION:  4th Year BComm at U Vic

ASPIRATION: “Marketing Director at Holt Renfrew has a nice ring to it.”

CURRENTLY: Co-op at Chamco in Calgary

TWITTER: twitter.com/michelabyl

Meet Michela Byl. She knows what she wants. Check out her blog and you’ll see her interests are well-formed and acted upon. She has her sights set on a career that mixes her passion for fashion and style with her training in business and entrepreneurship.

This Calgary girl – which is where she is currently doing her 4th year co-op term – describes herself as a business chameleon. She can handle whatever you throw at her and keep her head screwed on.

Here are my own observations: Michela brings it. She is respectful, engaged and interested, and has an outlook that makes her stand out straight away.

“She is such an optimistic person,” says Andrew Hall, a cohort at U Vic. “She knows where to keep the energy focused.”

Focus. Not every student coming out of a business school has that. Advantage to those, like Michela Byl, who do.

I’m lucky enough to count Ms Byl as one of my best friends. In addition to being wildly intelligent, creative and hardworking, she’s a top notch human being.

Congrats on the post, Michela! 🙂

I met Michela on Twitter a while back without knowing she had already made such a great impression on the folk here at Copeland.

I thought she was an incredibly kind person and i have thoroughly enjoyed reading all her tweets. Interesting, funny, and engaging. No doubt that she is one of the great up and comers

Eden and Andrea: Thank you for the incredibly kind words ladies. Means a lot coming from each of you.

Doug: Of course a big thanks to you for considering me for this series. I cannot wait to see who else you and the Copeland team bestow with this honour!

    > U Vic BComm students are such great supporters of each other too. Thanks for the extra info Andrea.

    > Michela, I don’t see this as an honour at all – just a nod at the smart people Victoria businesses should be looking to scoop up. If it wasn’t for people like you and Dan, I wouldn’t have anything to write about. So thank you!
