Edmonton radio station’s Win A Wife contest “not degrading”

8 Sep

According to the brand director of Edmonton station The Bear 100.3, their Win A Wife contest aims to bring lonely Canadian men together with lonely Russian women.

Edmonton radio station 100.3's Win a Russian Wife contest

This is not the first time such a competition has come across our desks.

Last year we blogged about New Zealand radio station The Rock’s infamous Win A Wife contest, which, bowing somewhat to the critical onslaught of sensible people everywhere, was renamed Win A Trip to Beautiful Ukraine And Meet Eastern European Hot Lady Who Maybe One Day You Marry contest.

The same brouhaha is taking place in Edmonton right now with outraged voices rising to denounce this opportunistic degradation of the Russian women in question.

The Edmonton station rep denied on The Huffington Post today that the women, provided by Russian “matchmaking” website A Volga Girl (ha!), were being degraded.

He also described as coincidence the identical nature of the New Zealand promo and his own station’s. Click here to compare the two for yourself.

As they say in Australia, there are only so many times a guy can piss in your pocket and call it rain.

I can’t believe I am the first to comment on this…

This is the single best expression I have heard – “there are only so many times a guy can piss in your pocket and call it rain.” I tend to agree.

    Good onya Sonya
